Abstract

Introduction: Peptic ulcer disease is an illness that caused by an infection or long-term usage of stomach irritants such as medicines might cause it. H. Pylori cause gastric cell damage and may be death through generation of oxidative stress and an inflammation within the mucosal layer. It should be checked in all patients with peptic ulcers.

Methods: The information on the protective effect of pharmacological Nrf2 activator, e.g. DMF, in the treatment of peptic ulcer was obtained from Electronic databases accessed included Google Scholar, PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus.

Results: H. pylori cause damage to gastric cell via ROS generation and enhance inflammatory cytokines. Nrf2 is a transcription factor that induce anti-oxidative stress enzymes and inhibit NF-κB, thereby, pharmacological activation of Nrf2 could reduce the effect of the pathogen and may be prevent damage or cell death.

Conclusion: DMF is a Nrf2 activator can be use in clinical trial to H. pylori induce gastric cells damage.

Keywords: DMF, H. pylori, Nrf2 activators, NF-κB, and ROS.
